Spitfire Over Swaledale
Original
Oil on Stretched Canvas 45” x 28”
The Commission
This painting was commissioned to show Spitfire X4276, KL-B flying over Swaledale in Yorkshire, with the background developed from a photograph supplied by the customer.
This Spitfire was flown by Alan Deere in late 1940, during a rest period following the Battle of Britain, training new pilots based at Catterick, Yorkshire. It is very unlikely that it carried the famous Kiwi artwork, as Deere stopped adding the artwork to his aircraft after Kiwi III.
